1. What is a Preposition?

A preposition is a word or expression that shows the relationship between a noun (or pronoun) and another word in the sentence. This "other word" can be a noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, or adverb.

  • Example: "The book is on the table." (Shows the relationship between "book" and "table".)
  • Example: "He is good at mathematics." (Connects the adjective "good" to the noun "mathematics".)
  • Example: "You must listen to your teacher." (Connects the verb "listen" to the noun "teacher".)


2. Position of Prepositions (Preposition рм░ рм╕рнНрмерм╛рми)

  1. Usually before a Noun/Pronoun: This is the most common position.
    • Example: "The pen is in my pocket."
  2. At the end of a sentence: This is also possible, especially in specific structures:
    • Wh-questions: "What are you looking at?"
    • Relative Clauses: "This is the book I have been looking for."
    • Passives: "I don't speak until I am spoken to."
    • Infinitives: "There was no chair to sit on."
    • Exclamations: "What a difficult situation he is in!"

Many phrases with prepositions have special, idiomatic meanings.
