Ans: The line is: "they have their mother as I have my own.".

I. Let's appreciate the Poem

A) 1. Why do you think the flowers dance upon the grass in wild glee?

Ans: They dance in wild glee because the rains have come, which means their "holidays" have started and they are finally free from their "school underground".

A) 2. Do you think the speaker feels that holidays are funnier than school days?

Ans: Yes, because he describes the flowers "rushing out" and dancing in "wild glee" during their holidays (the rain), while school is a strict place where they are shut in and made to "stand in a corner" .

A) 3. Why does the speaker think that the flowers go to school underground?

Ans: He thinks this because the flowers disappear for most of the year and then "come out of a sudden" all together when the rain starts, just like children rushing out of school for a holiday.

A) 4. How does the speaker describe the storm?

Ans: The speaker describes the storm as a joyful celebration: the wind "blow[s] its bagpipes", the branches "clash together", the leaves "rustle", and the thunder-clouds "clap their giant hands".

A) 5. Do you think that the speaker's description about the flowers and their school has any reality in real life?

Ans: No, the description is not real. It is the child's imagination, used to explain the natural process of flowers (bulbs) staying dormant underground and blooming when the monsoon rains arrive.

A) 6. Which elements of nature celebrate holidays with the flower children and how?

Ans: The branches celebrate by "clashing together", the leaves celebrate by "rustling in the wild wind", and the thunder-clouds celebrate by "clapping their giant hands".

A) 7. Identify the lines and phrases in the poem which indicate that the flower children have a strict system of schooling?

Ans: The lines are: "They do their lessons with doors shut" and "their master makes them stand in a corner.".

B) 1. Pick out as many such examples [of personification] as you can from the poem.

Ans: Storm clouds rumble in the sky The moist east wind comes marching The moist east wind... to blow its bagpipes crowds of flowers... dance upon the grass in wild glee the flowers go to school underground They do their lessons their master makes them stand in a corner Branches clash together the leaves rustle the thunder-clouds clap their giant hands the flower children rush out they raise their arms

B) 2. What are the things below compared to in the poem you just read?

Ans: the bamboos -> bagpipes the flowers -> (flower) children the underground -> (a) school the rains -> (their) holidays pink, yellow and white -> (their) dresses the sky -> (their) home the stars -> (The text does not compare the stars to anything, it only says they are where the flowers' home is)

B) 3) Which of the following ideas support the theme of 'The Flower- School'? Tick your choice.

Flower School Underground Date: 1 June 2025

Dear Mother,

How are you? YouтАЩll be glad to know that I go to school every day. Do you know how and where our school is? The school is situated underground. We all learn our lessons together with the doors shut tight, staying hidden from the world.

We make a lot of fun. But our class teacher is very strict. He is our master, and he makes us work all day. Just yesterday, some of my friends wanted to go out and play before it was time. Our master caught them and made them stand in a corner as punishment!

That is why I am so excited for the rains to come. I heard the thunder-clouds today, and the wind was playing its bagpipes in the bamboos. Soon the branches will clash and the leaves will rustle, and that will be the signal for our holidays! I cannot wait to rush out in my new pink, yellow, and white dress and dance on the grass with everyone. When I am free, I will raise my arms to you in the sky.

I am looking forward to the holidays. I miss you a lot, Mom.

Yours lovingly, (Name)
